Let's talk about art making.

We make art because we want to get good at it. So often, we forget, that the enjoyment of exploring and playing with the materials. What if I put this colour next to another, the simple joy of being in the process. Yes, we can be disappointed of that face that didn't work out or that tree that was wonky, but that disappointment doesn't define you or your ability. Because the truth is you will set yourself up for disappointment if your flower doesn't look like a Van Gogh or a Margaret Preston. What you think is a mistake is a beginning of hints and a unique footprint of your own style emerging; you are not replicating a copy of a Margaret Preston - we have camera's that do that. We come to art with our own lens that is lead our heart, head, hand - an intuitive process.

My art, your art is a journey. There will be hundreds of art works and maybe only three will please you. It is so important to be loose and free in your paintings, as a beginner or even a seasoned artist, because if you tighten up, it is not enjoyable. Mistakes again are an opportunity to grow into your style and technique, because you are growing and developing a mindset that you will keep on going, and you will see the good things in your mistakes, and you will get better. Over time the clarity will creep through if you keep pushing and being loose and playing. The goal is not perfection, enjoyment comes through appreciating, the hints that you see along the way. It is not about talent; it is moving towards what you are going to become in your art. You can't see it yet, but follow the breadcrumbs.
